Live Close to Transit, Save Money! It’s That Simple

Please check out a collaborative project between Brookings Urban Markets Initiative and the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT). They have created an interactive web tool allows individuals, urban planners, transportation and housing advocates to calculate the cost of housing and transportation by neighborhood in 52 metropolitan areas. The Housing and Transportation Affordability Index is phenomenal. They combine the Baltimore and Washington Metropolitan Areas into one region, but you can drill down to your specific census block area within Central Maryland.

Baltimore CityCommute Program

Baltimore's CityCommute Program's (Rideshare Program) mission is to promote commuter alternatives by educating on the benefits of using alternative transportation rather than driving alone in single-occupancy vehicles. The program's vision is to protect the ozone layer, reduce congestion and commute time, improve air quality and to promote livability in Baltimore City and the surrounding counties. Transit, carpooling, shuttles and vanpools, walking, bicycling, telework, and alternative work schedules are all modes of alternative transportation that are encouraged.

A key component of the program is Commuter Choice Maryland, an incentive program that encourages commuters who normally drive alone to work to switch to transit or vanpools.

The CityCommute Program can find you a ride! With there ridematching database, they can match you with other commuters who live and work near you and who are interested in sharing a ride.
